San Mateo Blues Defeat fast Broadway Deptment Store team making nineteenth straight win.

August 28, 1927 -The San Mateo Times

The San Mateo Blues made it nineteen straight wins when they took a game from the Broadway Department Store team at the City Park yesterday afternoon by the score of 9 to 3. Upon scanning the box score it appears most of the honors of winning the game should be turned over to Genial Gene Camozzi, who not only fanned eleven of the of the visiting batsmen, kept them hitless for five of the nine innings, and has two put outs and five assist to his credit, but also took upon himself three bingles out of four times at the bat.

The visitors started off like they were going to put a hitch in the Blues' winning streak but after the first inning there was never any doubt as to the ultimate outcome. Camozzi having the game well in hand at all stages.

Camozzi was not the only one to do himself proud with his stickwork as Pesty Bertram managed to hit three out of three, Silva checked three out of five; Big Bill Lawrence two for four, and Sorriva batted along even with Bertram.

The visitors tried a left handed pitcher against the San Mateo pets but he was sent to the showers after trying for a little more than five inning to hold them down. His job was taken up by Sunsuri, once with the Sacramento Coast League team, but the damage had already been done when he started in. LeVeque caught a good game for the Oakland outfit until he split his finger and had to give way to a youngster by the name of Nick Mazzini who will bear watching. This boy does not appear to be over 14 years old but he handles himself and the ball like a veteran.

Blues to travel

Next Sunday the team from Vallejo will make their first appearance on the Blues diamond this season and the following day, which will be a holiday, the Blues will make the trek to Vallejo for a return game. It has not as yet been definitely decided as¸to the leaving time and mode of travel but these details will be settled in a day so the fans are given ample time to make their arrangements to take the trip. This will probably be the last game played away from home this season so it is hoped a big following of fans will  go with the team and help them bring home the bacon.
